Wladimir Klitschko files for temporary guardianship of daughter Kaya's estate after Hayden Panettiere's death

Wladimir Klitschko filed Los Angeles court papers on 24 September seeking temporary guardianship of 11-year-old daughter Kaya's estate, calling the move "urgent and essential" to protect the sole heir's inheritance following Hayden Panettiere's death on 16 August.

Wladimir Klitschko has filed court papers in Los Angeles seeking to be named temporary guardian of his 11-year-old daughter Kaya’s estate, moving to protect her inheritance following the death of her mother, actress Hayden Panettiere, on 16 August at age 36.

According to legal documents obtained by Page Six and PEOPLE, the 50-year-old former heavyweight champion filed the petition on Thursday, 24 September. The filing calls his appointment “urgent and essential” so that he may “receive, manage and hold” the assets Kaya is entitled to as the sole heir of Panettiere’s probate estate, and give him standing to file the probate petition and nominate an administrator. A hearing on the request is set for 7 December 2026, according to the filing.

The documents describe security concerns around the estate: locks at Panettiere’s Los Angeles home were changed after her death, and designer clothing, accessories and jewellery were temporarily relocated. Klitschko states he was informed and believes federal agents entered the home as part of the ongoing investigation into her death and removed property, and notes an unnamed individual had gained unauthorised access to the property before her death. “It is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden’s Estate,” the petition reads.

Klitschko, who was granted full custody of Kaya in 2018 after Panettiere signed over her custody rights during her battle with addiction, said there is no personal representative currently safeguarding the estate. Kaya lives with him in Ukraine but the filing argues the California court retains jurisdiction over her inheritance.

Panettiere was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on 16 August, and the investigation into her death remains ongoing.
