Punjabi content creator Madhusudan Sandhu, better known to his Instagram and YouTube followers as ‘Mad Sandhu’, was fatally shot in Amritsar on Saturday.
Local media reports say a number of bullets were fired at the influencer and makeup artist. He was admitted to hospital in critical condition but did not survive, The Week reported.
Purported videos of the aftermath are circulating online, showing Sandhu lying on the street with spent bullet shells visible on the road, while bystanders lift him up. Police arrived at the scene after being informed and have launched a probe.
Sandhu had a following of 2.25 lakh on Instagram, where he posted makeup content, memes, vlogs and social commentary, alongside a smaller YouTube presence of vlogs and fashion videos. His Instagram profile described him as the founder of a unisex salon in Amritsar called Manelane.
The killing comes months after Nihang Jathedar Manpreet Singh Khalsa objected to Sandhu’s social media activities, attire and old videos, warning him against posting content the group said was harming Punjab’s culture and youth, according to a Dainik Bhaskar report cited by The Week. Sandhu had responded at the time that he had changed himself and stopped repeating past mistakes.
The cause of his death is not currently known. No arrests have been reported.
