Prime Video drops full Madden trailer with Nicolas Cage nearly unrecognisable as John Madden

Prime Video released the first full trailer for Madden on 24 September, with Nicolas Cage nearly unrecognisable as NFL legend John Madden and Christian Bale as Raiders owner Al Davis; the film arrives in select cinemas on 11 November and on Prime Video on 18 November.

Prime Video has released the first full trailer for Madden, the John Madden biopic starring Nicolas Cage as the NFL legend and Christian Bale as Raiders owner Al Davis, People and JustJared reported on 24 September.

The trailer shows Cage almost completely transformed through prosthetics and a physical performance to evoke Madden’s unmistakable appearance, with Parade calling the transformation “a shock for fans”. Bale, who plays Al Davis, “pulls off a disappearing act of his own”, People reported. Kathryn Hahn plays Madden’s wife Virginia, with Sienna Miller, John Mulaney and Shane Gillis also starring.

The film, written and directed by David O. Russell, chronicles Madden’s journey from Super Bowl-winning head coach of the Oakland Raiders to one of American football’s most recognisable broadcasters and the namesake of the Madden NFL video game franchise, according to the official synopsis. Madden died in December 2021 aged 85.

Madden will be released in select theatres on 11 November before its global streaming debut on Prime Video on 18 November, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed.
