Mark Mortimer, 'Another World' star who played Nick Hudson, dies aged 59

Mark Mortimer, best known for playing Nick Hudson on NBC's Another World from 1996 until its final episode in 1999, has died aged 59 after what his family called a 'fearless journey with cancer'.

Mark Mortimer, the actor who played Nick Hudson on the NBC soap opera Another World in its final years, has died aged 59, USA Today reports.

Mortimer died on 23 September surrounded by loved ones after “a fearless journey with cancer,” which he was diagnosed with in 2024, according to an obituary published by the family through Moss-Norris Funeral Home in St. Charles, Illinois.

Mortimer joined Another World in 1996 as Nick Hudson — the third actor to play the role after Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy — and stayed with the character until the show’s final episode in June 1999 after 35 years on air, according to People. His later screen credits included a 1999 episode of Spin City and the 2005 film The Nowhere Man.

Beyond acting, Mortimer was an Army veteran, a model and an entrepreneur who built Inside Out Construction with his wife Christie — whom he met at Hunter Mountain, New York, in 2000 — and a business partner. After his diagnosis, the couple founded the Integrative Access Foundation to help cancer patients afford integrative therapies.

“He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way,” the obituary read. “But of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad.”

A visitation was held on 25 September in St. Charles, followed by a funeral at Christ Community Church in South Elgin. In lieu of flowers, his family asked for donations to the Integrative Access Foundation.
