Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja arrested at pro-Palestine protest in Liverpool
Massive Attack musician Robert Del Naja was arrested outside Liverpool's ACC on Saturday during a pro-Palestine demonstration coinciding with the Labour Party conference, after being seen holding a sign reading 'I Oppose Genocide I Support Palestine Action'.
Massive Attack musician Robert Del Naja, known as 3D, was arrested outside the ACC in Liverpool on Saturday while attending a pro-Palestine demonstration held during the Labour Party conference weekend.
Footage circulated online showed Del Naja holding a sign reading “I Oppose Genocide I Support Palestine Action”. He was removed by police officers and arrested. Palestine Action is a proscribed organisation in the United Kingdom.
In the footage, Del Naja is heard saying he “doesn’t recognise the offence”, according to Clash Music. Demonstrators had gathered outside the conference venue to demand that the UK stop arming Israel, ahead of the first Labour Party conference under new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Al Jazeera reported.
Campaign group Defend Our Juries, which shared the video of the arrest, noted that Burnham had previously shared a platform with Del Naja in support of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. The group said more demonstrators planned to repeat Del Naja’s action near the same location on Sunday.
