Miley Cyrus breaks down in tears honouring late godmother Dolly Parton at Hollywood Bowl
Miley Cyrus wept onstage at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday night paying tribute to her late godmother Dolly Parton, telling the crowd: 'Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart.'
Miley Cyrus was overcome with emotion at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Friday night as she paid a tearful tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton, Page Six reported.
“Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart,” the 33-year-old told the crowd, which included Selena Gomez and Christina Aguilera, according to video footage from the performance. Wiping tears with a tissue, she added: “And I’m going to see her again. And I can’t f–king wait because I miss her.”
Cyrus then launched into an emotional rendition of Parton’s 1973 hit “Jolene” as an image of her beloved “Aunt Dolly” appeared onstage behind her, and later held a heart-shaped framed photo of the country music icon. “I feel her more now than ever,” she told the audience.
The singer also shared a funny memory of the only time she watched Parton perform live — at the Hollywood Bowl, from the seats. Parton had agreed to let her enjoy the show as a regular fan, but opened with “The Best of Both Worlds,” the Hannah Montana theme song, and proudly pointed her famous goddaughter out to the crowd, Just Jared reported.
Parton, a longtime friend of Cyrus’s father Billy Ray Cyrus who became her godmother when she was born in 1992, died on August 25 aged 80 following a battle with cancer.
