Reggie McFadden, 'In Living Color' comedian, dies aged 57
Reggie McFadden, the Brooklyn stand-up who broke out on HBO's Def Comedy Jam and spent the 1993-94 season on 'In Living Color', has died aged 57 in Tanzania, his sister Bernice confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reggie McFadden, the stand-up comedian and actor known for HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and the fifth season of Fox’s In Living Color, has died aged 57.
His sister, Bernice McFadden, confirmed the death to The Hollywood Reporter, saying the US State Department had notified the family that he died in Tanzania, where he had lived for roughly 18 years. The exact date and cause of death are not yet known, CelebNXT reported, citing THR.
Born in Brooklyn, McFadden broke out in 1991 on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, the showcase that launched a generation of Black stand-up comics. He moved to Los Angeles and joined In Living Color for its fifth and final season in 1993-94, appearing in 23 episodes in sketches including “Wheel of Dozens” and the “Dirty Dozens Tournament of Champions”.
His later credits included roles on Martin, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, Coach, Moesha, Getting Personal and Curb Your Enthusiasm, a 1998 Comedy Central Presents special, and film appearances in Jacob’s Ladder and Little Nicky, Deadline reported.
Fellow comedian Guy Torry paid tribute on Instagram, calling McFadden “a great writer, comedian, actor, father, and friend,” The Spun reported.
