Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday on a felony battery-by-strangulation charge and a misdemeanour battery charge, both classed as domestic violence; he was booked at 6:10am, is held on a $6,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty.
Rapper Rick Ross has been arrested in Miami Beach on domestic violence charges, including a felony count of battery by strangulation, USA Today reported.
The 50-year-old, born William Leonard Roberts II, was arrested around 6am on Thursday by the Miami Beach Police Department and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10am, according to Miami-Dade County jail records cited by Page Six and Consequence.
He faces one felony charge of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanour battery charge, both characterised as involving domestic violence, with a combined bond set at $6,000. A stay-away order was entered as a pretrial condition, and a bond hearing was set for Thursday, USA Today reported.
Ross’s attorney, Bradley Horenstein, filed a written plea of not guilty, and he is scheduled to be arraigned on October 22, Consequence reported.
The arrest follows public abuse allegations from his former girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick, who accused him of physical abuse days before the arrest. Law enforcement sources told TMZ she reported to police on Tuesday about an alleged incident on August 28, after which Ross voluntarily surrendered to authorities, Page Six reported.
Ross’s lawyers issued a statement saying he is “being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear”, adding: “Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges,” the Daily Caller reported, citing TMZ.
