Gus Ormo, Venezuelan singer and pianist, found dead in Florida pool as police probe 'suspicious' death
Venezuelan singer and composer Gustavo "Gus" Ormo was found dead in the pool of his Weston, Florida home on Friday morning; Broward Sheriff homicide and crime scene detectives are investigating what officials called a "suspicious incident".
Gustavo Ormo, the Venezuelan singer and composer known as Gus Ormo, has been found dead in the swimming pool of his home in Weston, Florida, in what police are treating as a “suspicious incident”.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a possible drowning at a home on Quail Roost Drive at around 9am local time on Friday, 16 October, where a man was found submerged in the pool and pronounced dead at the scene, PEOPLE reported, citing the Miami Herald, Miami New Times and CBS News.
“Detectives with BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene Units were notified and are on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding this suspicious incident,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. Emergency dispatch audio reportedly described the man as “tied up”, and aerial footage showed a cord leading into the pool — but investigators have not confirmed that either detail is connected to his death.
The body was taken to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death, and no arrests have been made. Police have not publicly confirmed the victim’s identity; family members identified him as Ormo. His sister Antonieta Ormo confirmed his death to CBS News Miami, saying the family had no further information.
Ormo was an accomplished pianist from Maracaibo known for his romantic compositions. He released the nine-track album Alquimia in 2025 and the instrumental collection AGAPE earlier this month; his last Instagram post, shared the day before he died, promoted an AGAPE behind-the-scenes project.
