Taylor Swift breaks two 2026 Spotify records with 'Patient Zero'

Taylor Swift's 'Patient Zero' set a new 2026 Spotify record for the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day, with Swift also becoming the most-streamed female artist in a day this year.

Taylor Swift has broken two Spotify records for 2026 following the 25 September release of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. Lead single “Patient Zero” became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day so far this year, according to Spotify, while Swift herself became the most-streamed female artist in a single day this year, per a rep for the streaming service.

The Encore is an expanded edition of Swift’s 2025 album carrying four new tracks: “Patient Zero”, “Cleveland!”, “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon”. Swift announced the expansion on 23 September, days after changing her Instagram bio to replace the letter “o” with the number 0. On Instagram, Swift wrote that the new songs were “born out of pure gratitude” after she said fans gave the original album “the biggest first week for an album in history”.

The “Patient Zero” music video, directed by Swift and starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, will premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on 27 September, where Swift is also nominated. She is due to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.
