Will Reeve reveals testicular cancer diagnosis and announces he is now cancer-free

Good Morning America correspondent Will Reeve has revealed he was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year and is now cancer-free (People).

The 34-year-old ABC News correspondent — the son of the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve — announced the diagnosis on GMA on Tuesday, telling viewers “right off the top” that he was “OK” (Page Six).

Reeve told People the cancer was found in April, when his wife Amanda Dubin — whom he married in January — urged him to get an ultrasound after noticing a tender lump in the shower (People). An orchiectomy in May removed the testicle, but tests showed 95 percent of the cancer was embryonal carcinoma, an aggressive form of the disease (EW).

On June 10 he underwent six hours of surgery to remove dozens of lymph nodes from his abdomen; three tested positive, and he completed two rounds of chemotherapy (People). He rang the bell at Memorial Sloan Kettering at the end of July, and “clean scans” on Sept. 8 confirmed he is cancer-free — his doctors using what he calls the “good C-word — ‘cure’” (People).

It is the same building where his mother Dana Reeve died of lung cancer in 2006, aged 44, two years after Christopher died aged 52 following a 1995 horse-riding accident (EW).

“I was raised to share one’s struggles if, in doing so, that might help others,” Reeve said (People). He discusses it further on GMA on Wednesday and Thursday, 7–9am ET (TV Insider).
