Yung Filly to face rape retrial in Australia next June after jury hung

Perth District Court has set 15 June 2027 as the start date for the retrial of British rapper Yung Filly on three rape charges, after a July jury failed to reach a verdict.

British rapper Yung Filly will face a retrial for rape in Australia next June after a jury failed to reach a verdict on three rape charges during his first trial.

Perth’s District Court set 15 June 2027 as the start date on Friday, with the retrial expected to last eight days. The 31-year-old — whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos — was not required to appear and is understood to have returned to the UK after bail conditions were changed in late August.

In July, the jury acquitted him of three counts of rape, one of assault and one of strangulation, but found him guilty of two assault charges. No decision was reached on three further rape charges, which prosecutors said they would retry.

The complainant, a female fan aged 20 at the time, alleges Barrientos repeatedly raped and assaulted her in his Perth hotel room after a concert in 2024. The court heard the pair had consensual sex before she alleged it turned violent and he refused to stop. Sentencing for the two assault convictions will follow the retrial. He has denied the three rape charges, according to PA Media.

Judge Linda Black varied his bail on 27 August, allowing him to return to Britain by 31 August and stay until flying back to Perth: he must return to Australia 10 days before the retrial, surrender his passport within 24 hours, avoid contact with the alleged victim and a key prosecution witness, and make no public comment on the case.

Born in Colombia and raised in the UK, Barrientos is known for the YouTube collective Beta Squad, Channel 4’s celebrity Bake Off and presenting BBC Three shows.
