Democrat Amy Acton has opened a seven-point lead over Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio’s governor’s race, according to a new Marist poll released on Tuesday.

The survey puts Acton at 50 per cent to Ramaswamy’s 43 per cent among likely voters. Marist interviewed 1,176 likely voters between October 15 and 18, with a margin of error of 4.5 points.

The same poll found former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown leading incumbent Republican Jon Husted 48 per cent to 44 per cent in Ohio’s US Senate contest.

The results are consistent with September’s Marist survey, which had Acton ahead 50 to 44 among registered voters, and with recent polls from BGSU/YouGov, CNN/SSRS and the New York Times/Siena, each of which put Acton up by between four and eight points.

The picture is not unanimous: an ActiVote poll released on October 19 had Ramaswamy narrowly ahead, 51.4 to 48.6. Both the Cook Political Report and Inside Elections rate the race a toss-up.

Early voting has been under way in Ohio since October 6, with the election on November 3.
