Kremlin warns using Starlink for strikes deep inside Russia would be 'dangerous'

The Kremlin has warned that providing Starlink satellite systems for strikes deep inside Russian territory would be “dangerous” and “reckless”, in a sharp response to Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s call on Elon Musk to expand coverage for Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the remarks in an interview with Russian media outlet Vesti on Sunday. “As for the provision of (Elon) Musk’s satellite systems for carrying out strikes deep inside Russia, that would be a very detrimental, potentially dangerous and reckless step,” Peskov said, according to Anadolu Agency.

Stubb had called on the SpaceX chief executive to expand Starlink coverage to enable Ukraine to conduct strikes against Russian ballistic missile launchers located inside Russian territory, Reuters reported last week.

Peskov insisted Russia had the technological and military capabilities needed to ensure its security. He also said no decision had been made on whether President Vladimir Putin would attend the upcoming G20 summit, adding that Russia would actively participate regardless. On US ties, he said relations remained “not in the best shape”.

Starlink has become a central part of Ukraine’s military communications infrastructure, and Kyiv has repeatedly sought permission to use it for strikes inside Russia.
