NASA awards Omitron $23.5m orbital safety analysis contract
NASA has awarded a five-year, $23.5 million contract to Omitron Inc. for orbital safety analysis services protecting NASA spacecraft and astronaut lives.
NASA has awarded a contract to Omitron Inc. for orbital safety analysis services, an indefinite-delivery deal valued at approximately $23.5 million over a five-year period of performance, the agency announced on 29 September (NASA).
The Orbital Safety Analysis Support Services contract covers conjunction assessment screening — the tracking of close approaches between objects in orbit — for all NASA uncrewed spacecraft, alongside support for human spaceflight activities. It also includes orbital safety analysis support for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Space Commerce.
The services, NASA said, “provide for critical protection of NASA spaceflight assets and astronaut lives,” as Earth’s orbit grows ever more crowded with satellites and debris.
Work will be carried out at Omitron’s base in Beltsville, Maryland, and at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren in Virginia, and Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The award was issued as Contract Release C26-002 (Goddard) on 29 September 2026.
