Starlink launches 'for Communities' programme letting hosts sell hourly internet passes
SpaceX's Starlink has opened a beta 'for Communities' programme letting property owners turn a single Starlink kit into a shared-access business, with neighbours buying hour, day, week or month passes instead of full subscriptions while Starlink handles accounts, payments and access controls.

SpaceX’s Starlink is opening a new beta programme that lets ordinary property owners turn a single satellite dish into a small shared-access business, with neighbours buying short-term internet passes rather than full subscriptions.
Under “Starlink for Communities”, a host installs one Starlink kit — dish and router — at a location with nearby demand, such as a block of flats, a campsite, a rural crossroads or an event site, Teslarati reports (https://www.teslarati.com/starlink-launches-communities-program-passive-income-through-internet-shar). Hour, day and week passes each cover one device, while a month pass covers up to four.
Starlink handles account creation, payments, access controls and the satellite link itself, while the host’s role is mainly placement, power and basic upkeep — with earnings tied to each paid connection. Telecompetitor, describing the programme page on Starlink’s own site, confirms the company “will manage payments, user access, and connectivity” as hosts handle site setup and earn revenue from every connection (https://www.telecompetitor.com/starlink-seeks-community-hosts-to-sell-hourly-weekly-internet-passes/).
Host applications are already being accepted in multiple countries, Teslarati reports, with Starlink describing the revenue split as ongoing.
The launch was flagged on X on 1 October 2026 by Sawyer Merritt, who wrote that the programme “lets you earn money by providing Starlink internet to your neighbors”, with passes payable by the hour, day, week or month.
Pass pricing and the exact revenue split have not yet been disclosed.
