Starlink suffers hours-long outage, then restores service for thousands of users

SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service was restored after an hours-long outage that affected more than 43,000 users in the United States, according to outage tracker Downdetector.

SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service was restored on Monday after an hours-long outage that disrupted service for tens of thousands of users, the company said in a post on X.

“The network issue has been resolved, and Starlink service has been restored,” the post said, adding that the company apologised for the disruption.

During the outage, a notice on Starlink’s website said: “Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating,” without providing further details.

Outage tracker Downdetector reported that more than 43,000 users in the United States were affected as of 12:35 a.m. ET (0435 GMT). Starlink, operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, provides internet via a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites and is used in remote areas and conflict zones globally.

The Starlink network is composed of roughly 8,000 satellites beaming broadband internet to millions of subscribers. SpaceX did not say how widespread the outage was or how many subscribers were affected overall, and it did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment during the outage.
