Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital after collapsing during a training session at the club’s training ground on Friday, the German champions confirmed.

The 40-year-old Belgian was watching the club’s second-team session at the Säbener Straße training ground when he required medical attention, according to the club’s statement. Bayern said Kompany “will undergo thorough examination in the hospital and remain in medical care”, adding that his coaching staff will manage training and match operations in the meantime (https://www.skysports.com/football/news/13602757/vincent-kompany-bayern-munich-boss-taken-to-hospital-after-collapsing-at-training-ground).

Sky Sports in Germany reported that Kompany’s condition is stable. A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the training ground, according to reports in Germany (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/2026/10/23/bayern-munich-manager-vincent-kompany-collapse-training-hosptial-health-update/92397177007/).

Sporting director Max Eberl said: “The health of Vincent Kompany is our utmost priority. At FC Bayern, we will do everything to ensure he recovers quickly. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery” (https://www.arabnews.com/football/bayern-munich-coach-kompany-hospitalized-after-collapsing-at-training-3007937).

Kompany had been nursing a viral infection in recent days, missing his pre-match press conference before Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal but still taking his place in the dugout for the 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena. He had earlier given his half-time team talk sitting down during the 6-1 Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig and skipped post-match media duties (https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sport/bayern-coach-kompany-taken-hospital-after-collapsing-during-training-session-6487336).

No details on the cause of the collapse have been disclosed beyond the club’s statement. Bundesliga leaders Bayern travel to face Freiburg on Sunday.
