The United States will host the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028, FIFA has announced.

The Bureau of the FIFA Council appointed the United States as host of the first edition of the tournament, which will be staged from 5 to 30 January 2028. FIFA said the decision was taken in view of the country’s experience in organising FIFA tournaments, the maturity of its infrastructure and services, and the level of stakeholder interest in women’s football.

The tournament will bring together 19 of the world’s leading women’s club teams from all six confederations. Seven clubs have already secured their places: Arsenal of England, Club América Femenil of Mexico, FC Barcelona of Spain, Gotham FC of the United States, Naegohyang of North Korea, SC Corinthians of Brazil and Wuhan Jiangda of China.

Access to the remaining places will be granted based on clubs’ sporting results in their confederation’s premier club competition over the four-year qualifying period spanning the seasons ending in 2024 and 2027, FIFA said.

FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Dame Sarai Bareman said the seven confirmed clubs, “and a dozen more, will come together to show the strength and depth of women’s club football to a global audience”.

The inaugural edition was initially slated for 2026 before FIFA pushed it back, giving it a clear window after the 2027 Women’s World Cup and before the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
