Intel agrees to acquire quantum software firm Classiq in record deal
Intel has agreed to acquire Israeli quantum software company Classiq, combining its spin-qubit hardware with Classiq's synthesis platform to build a full-stack quantum business.
Intel has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Classiq, an Israeli quantum computing software company, the chipmaker announced on Monday, in a move to build a full-stack quantum computing business.
Combining Classiq’s synthesis platform with Intel’s spin-qubit manufacturing and existing software would create a “user-friendly full-stack quantum computing platform”, Intel said, adding quantum processing units to a portfolio spanning central, graphics and application-specific processors.
Intel’s announcement gave no price, but Israeli outlet CTech reported the deal at $2.3 billion in cash and shares, which would make it the largest acquisition of a quantum computing company to date, ahead of IonQ’s $1 billion purchase of Oxford Ionics last year. Classiq, founded in 2020, employs about 150 people and has raised around $200 million, CTech reported.
“I am delighted to have Nir, Yehuda, Amir and the entire Classiq team join Intel,” said Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan. “Joining forces with Classiq transforms Intel’s Quantum Computing Group into a full-stack quantum computing business.”
Classiq co-founder and chief executive Nir Minerbi said the combination would “help unlock the benefits of quantum computing and accelerate its adoption sooner”. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first half of 2027; the companies will operate separately until then. Bloomberg reported that Tan had previously invested in Classiq.
