Met launches criminal probe into alleged unauthorised access of political party database

The Met has launched a criminal investigation after a September 2025 report of alleged unauthorised access of a political party's database; one man arrested, one woman interviewed, no charges.

The Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation after receiving a September 2025 report of alleged unauthorised access of a political party’s database, a force spokesperson said.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of an offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. He was released pending further inquiries and has not been charged. Officers interviewed a woman in her 30s under caution in connection with the same investigation. Neither person is an MP, and neither has been charged with any offence. “The investigation continues,” the police spokesperson added.

The Met did not name the party in its statement. Sources told the Guardian the investigation is linked to the dispute surrounding the founding of Your Party, while Politico cited three insider sources connecting the probe to the same dispute. Politico also reported that neither Jeremy Corbyn nor Zarah Sultana, who founded Your Party in summer 2025, has been accused of wrongdoing.

In January, the Information Commissioner’s Office told Your Party it would take no further action over the membership portal launch, but warned the episode may have involved “serious criminal activity” and should be referred to police. A Your Party spokesperson said it would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing investigations, adding the party’s systems are secure and the episode was isolated.

Your Party was founded in July 2025 by Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana; a row over the party’s membership portal followed in September 2025, and Mr Corbyn won a leadership vote in February 2026.
