Man, 41, charged with murder of Robbie Lawlor in north Belfast

A 41-year-old man arrested in Liverpool has been charged with the 2020 murder of Robbie Lawlor in Ardoyne, north Belfast, and is due before Belfast Magistrates' Court today.

A 41-year-old man arrested in Liverpool has been charged with the murder of Robert “Robbie” Lawlor, who was shot dead outside a house in Etna Drive, Ardoyne, in north Belfast on 4 April 2020.

The man was arrested by Merseyside Police on Wednesday 23 September and transported to Northern Ireland for questioning by detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team. Police confirmed on Thursday evening that he has been charged with murder and with possession of a firearm or ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property.

He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday 25 September. As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. No name has been released, and the charges are allegations at this stage.

Lawlor, 36, was heavily involved in the Drogheda feud and was in Northern Ireland because he feared he was going to be attacked. Gardaí believe he was responsible for the murder of 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods, whose dismembered remains were found in various locations in Louth and Dublin.

Five other men, including Lawlor’s brother-in-law Stephen Carberry, have already been jailed for their roles in the murder.
