Britain announces £88 million aid package for Gaza
The British government has announced an £88 million package of support for humanitarian relief and early recovery in Gaza, covering health care, water, sanitation and protection for people in Gaza and the West Bank.
Britain will provide an £88 million package of support for humanitarian relief and early recovery in Gaza, the government announced on Thursday.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said the funding — worth $116.25 million — would help deliver health care, clean water, sanitation and hygiene services, waste management and protection support to people in Gaza and the West Bank, Reuters reported.
The package is aimed at humanitarian relief and early recovery as the crisis in Gaza continues. No further details of the timing or delivery channels were given in the announcement.
The announcement comes as ministers have used the UN General Assembly week in New York to set out Britain’s position on the Middle East. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi this week that Britain would “not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil” from Iranian-linked groups, and pressed the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Sky News reported.
