Diesel hits £2 a litre for the first time as UK average reaches 200.01p
The UK-wide average diesel pump price reached 200.01p a litre on Friday, crossing £2 for the first time, according to RAC data — with the RAC's Simon Williams warning the rise is 'showing no signs of slowing'.

The average UK pump price of diesel hit £2 a litre ($2.64) for the first time on Friday, reaching 200.01p, according to data compiled by the RAC motoring organisation — the latest landmark in a global surge in fuel prices, Reuters reported.
The milestone comes days after the previous high of 199.09p — set in June 2022 shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — was passed on Monday. It is a follow-up to the 199.3p record reported here on Sunday.
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said the rise in prices was “showing no signs of slowing”.
Meanwhile, European Union countries discussed a French proposal on Friday to release diesel stocks in response to US pressure to help cool surging fuel prices, Reuters reported.
French President Emmanuel Macron intends to hold a call with his G7 counterparts to discuss actions on the world markets for crude and refined products after discussing the issue with US President Donald Trump.
