UAE and Muslim Council of Elders condemn Ben-Gvir's storming of Al-Aqsa
The UAE and the Muslim Council of Elders have strongly condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound with hundreds of settlers, warning of a 'provocative escalation'.
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and hundreds of settlers, The National reported on 29 September.
Ben-Gvir led hundreds of Israelis into the compound under police protection on Monday, the third day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, with around 900 people entering in the morning, according to Al Jazeera. “We are the owners of the place in Al-Aqsa,” Ben-Gvir said during the incursion, Al Jazeera reported.
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the incidents risk “provocative escalation” and described the acts as extremist and “unacceptable”, calling on Israel’s government to assume full responsibility and hold all those involved accountable. It said continued attacks and incitement constituted a “systematic extremist campaign”, and stressed the need to respect the historical and legal status quo and Jordan’s custodial role, The National reported.
The Muslim Council of Elders also strongly condemned the storming of the courtyards by Ben-Gvir and settler groups under Israeli police protection, calling it a flagrant violation of international law and calling for accountability and respect of the status quo, WAM reported via UrduPoint on 30 September.
Ben-Gvir also entered the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron on Tuesday, a day after the Al-Aqsa incursion, SANA reported.
