An Australian Army soldier has died during a training exercise at the Mount Bundey Training Area in the Northern Territory, Australia’s Department of Defence has confirmed.
In a statement released on 6 October 2026, Defence said the soldier died during the exercise on Monday 5 October. Five other Australian Army soldiers were injured in the incident.
“Defence can confirm an Australian Army soldier has died during a training exercise at the Mount Bundey Training Area on 5 October 2026. Five other Australian Army soldiers were injured,” the statement said.
The department said the next of kin had been notified and asked that the privacy of members and their families be respected. Further updates would be provided when possible.
