Eight to 13 militants killed as Bugti Peace Force repels attacks in Dera Bugti; 18 workers abducted in Duki

Armed militants attacked a district council chairman's residence and a gas company camp in Dera Bugti on Saturday, triggering prolonged gun battles with the Bugti Peace Force; separately, 18 workers were abducted from a construction camp in Duki.

At least eight suspected militants were killed on Saturday in a prolonged clash with the Bugti Peace Force, a pro-government tribal militia, in the Loti area of Dera Bugti district in Balochistan, according to police officials cited by Dawn.

A peace force member identified as Fazal Khan was martyred after suffering multiple bullet injuries, and three other members were injured. Seven suspected militants who allegedly belonged to a banned outfit were arrested, police said.

Sources said armed men attacked the residence of Dera Bugti District Council Chairman Ghulam Nabi Shambani and a gas company camp in the Loti area with heavy weapons in the early hours of Saturday. Peace force personnel deployed for the protection of the chairman and the camp took positions and returned fire; the exchange continued for over an hour, with rockets used by both sides. The attackers returned later in the day and again attacked the chairman’s residence, sources said. Casualty tolls differ between outlets: Samaa TV reported 13 terrorists killed in the Beih Loti clash.

Dawn also reported that a tribal leader was shot dead in the Naal area of Khuzdar, and firing was reported at the residence of Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, a central leader of the National Party.

Separately, Aaj English TV reported that armed men attacked a road construction company’s labour camp in Duki tehsil of Loralai district, set fire to machinery and abducted 18 workers, taking them to an undisclosed location. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an operation to recover the workers. One security guard was martyred and another injured in the attack on the camp, sources said.
