The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday shot dead two suspected Pakistani intruders along the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab, officials said, the Press Trust of India reported.

The incident took place around noon in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, near Rajoke village, according to initial information reported by NDTV. Officials said BSF troops deployed along the border noticed suspicious movement, challenged the suspected intruders and repeatedly warned them to stop, Asianet Newsable reported, citing the ANI news agency.

The intruders allegedly ignored the warnings and continued moving towards the Indian side, prompting BSF personnel to open fire after sensing a threat, officials said. Both were killed.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be established, officials said, adding that the bodies have been handed over to the Punjab Police for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway in close coordination between the Punjab Police and the BSF.

A meeting between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers is also expected to be held soon in connection with the incident, officials said. Punjab shares a 553-km-long border with Pakistan.
