GB Scouts soldier, two policemen injured in attack on patrol vehicle in Chilas

A Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts (GBS) soldier and two police personnel were injured when their patrol vehicle came under gunfire near Sher Nallah at the Karakoram Highway’s Bashidas Zero Point in the Chilas area of Diamer district late on Sunday evening, Dawn reported, citing a statement from the chief minister’s secretariat.

According to the statement, a patrol vehicle of the 116 GBS wing came under fire from the mountain side near Sher Nallah. The injured — one GBS soldier and two SSU policemen — were rushed to the FWO Hospital in Bashidas, where they received medical treatment before being referred to the RHQ Hospital in Chilas.

Chief Minister Amjad Hussain sought an investigation report into the shooting and directed police and law-enforcement agencies to track down and arrest the attackers, planners and facilitators using all available resources. He ordered strengthened security, surveillance and search operations in Bashidas, Sher Nallah and surrounding areas, saying attacks on security personnel challenged state authority and would not be tolerated. He also instructed the Diamer authorities to ensure the injured received the best medical care.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts are a federal paramilitary force responsible for security, border protection and support to civil administration across the region. No group or individual had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting.
