Dar presses OIC to back Gaza peace plan and confront West Bank settlements

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for “urgent” global attention to illegal Israeli settlements and settler violence in the West Bank, and for the full implementation of the Gaza peace plan, at a meeting of the OIC Committee of Six on Palestine in New York on Monday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Dar said the Gaza ceasefire was being violated “on an almost daily basis”, with the humanitarian situation “dire” and the security environment “extremely fragile”. He pressed for the full and faithful implementation of the comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which was adopted in November 2025.

Dar welcomed the efforts of the mediating countries — the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye — in advancing implementation of the plan, and said post-war governance and reconstruction in Gaza must remain Palestinian-led with “a central role for the Palestinian Authority”.

On the West Bank, he said Israel’s “illegal settlement activity, settler violence, annexationist policies, and other violations” threatened the “territorial integrity and continuity” of the occupied Palestinian territory and undermined the viability of a future Palestinian state. He also condemned incursions at Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, calling them “flagrant violations of international law”.

He reiterated Pakistan’s support for an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the basis of the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and for Palestine’s full membership of the United Nations.
