Two killed as building collapses in Delhi's Harsh Vihar
Two men were killed after a building structure collapsed in Delhi's Harsh Vihar on Sunday evening, with rescue teams recovering both bodies from the debris overnight.
Two men were killed after a building structure collapsed in the Harsh Vihar area of northeast Delhi on Sunday evening, police said.
The collapse was reported at 6.46pm on Sunday at A-4, Milan Garden, on Sewa Dham Road. The ground-floor structure of an old building, reportedly used as a godown, collapsed along with the structure built above it on the first floor, according to police.
The two men pulled from beneath the debris during an overnight rescue operation were declared brought dead at GTB Hospital. Police identified them as Chanderpal, 60, and Vijay Kumar, 33, both residents of Harsh Vihar.
Delhi Fire Services, the National Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence volunteers and local police took part in the rescue operation, clearing debris through the night. Delhi ministers Kapil Mishra and Ashish Sood visited the site on Sunday night.
Police said legal action under the relevant provisions of law was being initiated and that an investigation into the circumstances of the collapse was under way.
The collapse comes weeks after the Satya Niketan building tragedy in Delhi, which claimed seven lives, NDTV reported.
