Bomb attack on police checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan kills at least 11
At least 11 people, including a child, were killed and 20 to 30 injured in a bomb attack targeting a police checkpost at Aman Mela near Darazinda on Saturday, emergency service Rescue 1122 said.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN — At least 11 people were killed and 20 to 30 injured in a bomb attack targeting a police checkpost at Aman Mela near Darazinda in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, emergency service Rescue 1122 said (Reuters).
The dead included eight men, two women and a child, Rescue 1122 said, adding that rescue teams were continuing operations at the site and recovering victims from the debris (Dawn).
Police said the incident occurred at the Aman Mela checkpost, near Mughal Kot and Darazinda on the Dera Ismail Khan–Quetta road, close to the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Several people, including police and customs personnel and two civilians, were among those injured, according to police. Rescue 1122 said 20 injured people had so far been given medical assistance and shifted to hospitals (Dawn).
Separately, police told Al Jazeera that at least seven security personnel had been killed and 20 others wounded in the blast near the checkpoint.
Authorities had not released details about the cause of the explosion, and no group had claimed responsibility, at the time of writing.
