Six terrorists killed, two soldiers martyred in Dera Ismail Khan operation, ISPR says

ISLAMABAD — Security forces killed six terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

The operation was conducted on Saturday in the general area of Zarkani, in Dera Ismail Khan, on reports of the presence of terrorists belonging to what the military calls the Indian proxy Fitna Al Khawarij, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. The state uses the term Fitna al Khawarij for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.

Two soldiers were martyred in an intense exchange of fire during the operation, the ISPR said: 36-year-old Naik Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Gujrat district, and 30-year-old Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, a resident of Talagang. The ISPR said both soldiers fought gallantly.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed terrorists, who, the ISPR said, had been actively involved in attacks on security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as the killing of civilians. A sanitisation operation was under way to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, the statement added.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces and paid tribute to the two martyred soldiers, expressing condolences to their families, Business Recorder reported.
