CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke freed on conditional bail after Delhi protest detention
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, was released on conditional bail on Saturday after signing a peace bond and undertaking to keep the peace for one year.
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was granted conditional bail on Saturday by a Delhi court and released after signing a peace bond, according to the New Indian Express. One of the key bail conditions requires him to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.
Dipke was produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg Police Station on Saturday morning after being arrested for allegedly violating a peace bond he furnished on October 10, police sources said. “Based on the assurance given in the peace bond, he was let off. We are awaiting the written order for further details,” a senior police officer told PTI.
He had been detained on Friday moments after stepping out of his house to join the CJP’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place. Police served him two notices ahead of the scheduled 5 pm march, with more than 20 personnel visiting his residence; the detention was carried out under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the Logical Indian reports.
All India Students’ Association president Neha Bora, also detained on Friday, was released on Saturday. CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remain in five days’ judicial custody, while CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde was freed on a personal bond, TBS News reports. The march backed demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the Daily Pioneer reports.
