Putin's envoy held 'constructive' Ukraine war talks in Washington, US official says

Kirill Dmitriev held 'constructive' talks with US officials in Washington on ending the Ukraine war, including possible postwar energy initiatives, a US official said on Tuesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev held “constructive” talks with US officials in Washington on ending the Ukraine war, including possible US-Russia energy initiatives in the postwar period, a US official said on Tuesday.

Dmitriev, who also heads Russia’s RDIF sovereign wealth fund, visited Washington on Monday for what the official described as a continuation of efforts to reach a negotiated settlement.

“To continue constructive discussions on a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and possible U.S.-Russia energy initiatives after the war ends,” the official said, describing the purpose of the visit.

The talks follow a meeting last week between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York, where Zelenskyy said the pair discussed a potential ceasefire on energy-related targets.

They also come after Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner travelled to Moscow earlier this month for talks with Putin, as Washington steps up diplomacy on both tracks of the conflict — ending the fighting and shaping postwar economic arrangements.
