Two people were injured and hospitalised after a shooting at Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota during the school’s homecoming football game on Friday night, forcing an evacuation of the stadium, CBS News reported.
Eden Prairie police said the shooting happened around 8:40pm outside the stadium while the Eagles were hosting Minnetonka. Both victims, whose ages have not been disclosed, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests had been made, and police said the area was secured.
The stadium was cleared in the fourth quarter as officers from Eden Prairie and neighbouring agencies, the fire department and Hennepin County EMS responded. District officials directed students, players, marching band members and spectators to a reunification point at Round Lake Park.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the incident in a social media post late on Friday. “No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence,” he said.
State representative Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn said she was aware of the incident. The motive and the circumstances of the shooting were under investigation.
