Two dead, 35 injured in mass shooting at Georgia homecoming block party
Two men were killed and 35 people injured when gunfire erupted at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early on Sunday, with more than 1,000 people gathered, officials said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said shots were fired from the 900 block of Pine Street at about 1:25 a.m., while Dooly County sheriff’s deputies were on patrol at the block party. Two people found in the 600 block of Pine Street were pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office requested the GBI’s assistance, and the investigation is active and ongoing.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said more than 1,000 people had gathered when gunfire broke out, with shots fired toward at least 50 people at two locations roughly a block apart. Twenty-five people were taken to hospitals; as many as 35 may have been injured, the sheriff said (WALB).
Coroner Brett Walls confirmed the two men killed were aged 20 and 23. Their families have been notified but the men have not been publicly identified while the investigation continues. No suspect has been announced. The deceased will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies, and the case file will go to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
