Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered the immediate removal of the Gwalior City Superintendent of Police and the suspension of eight police personnel over alleged negligence in the truck crash near the Sheetla Mata Temple that killed 14 people.

In a statement posted on X, Yadav said instructions had been issued to remove the CSP from his post and suspend three station house officers, one traffic inspector, one head constable and three constables, along with ordering a detailed investigation to fix responsibility and ensure strict action against the guilty. “The safety of all citizens is paramount,” he wrote.

The chief minister added that security arrangements would be reviewed to prevent similar incidents. “To prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, the security arrangements will be reviewed and necessary steps taken. No negligence will be tolerated at any level in public safety,” Yadav said.

The crash happened at around 1.30am on Sunday, when a paddy-laden truck reportedly lost control while descending a steep slope and ploughed into devotees gathered near the temple. The vehicle broke through barricades and a police checkpoint before striking the temple’s outer wall and gate. Gwalior Collector Ruchika Chauhan said the 14 dead included two women, two children under 18 and ten men.

Separately, Yadav announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for the families of each of the deceased, with the government bearing the treatment expenses of the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.
