India on Tuesday condemned a projectile attack on the Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace in the Strait of Hormuz that injured 12 crew members, including 11 Indian nationals.

The vessel, with IMO number 9893204, was struck while transiting the strait off the coast of Oman. Of its 19-member crew, 17 are Indian nationals, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement (IANS).

“We condemn the attack earlier today on a Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace off the coast of Oman, where it was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” the MEA said. With the assistance of Omani authorities, the injured crew were evacuated and are receiving medical treatment in Khasab, Oman (IANS).

The ministry said continuing attacks on shipping in the region remained “a cause of deep concern for India” and reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of such attacks, adding that “the targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end” (IANS, PTI via ABP Live).

On October 3, the MEA said five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III were rescued and shifted ashore safely after that vessel was also struck by a projectile in the strait, with the Indian Embassy in Oman coordinating the operation (IANS).
