IDF strikes Hezbollah targets after explosive drone attack on troops in southern Lebanon

Hezbollah launched an explosive drone at Israeli troops in southern Lebanon's buffer zone overnight; the IDF says no soldiers were injured and it struck the group's drone and anti-tank missile launching posts in response.

Hezbollah launched an explosive drone at Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon’s buffer zone overnight, prompting Israeli air strikes on the group’s infrastructure sites in several areas of southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said on Sunday morning.

No injuries were caused by the drone, the IDF said, in a statement reported by The Times of Israel’s military correspondent Emanuel Fabian at 9:39am local time.

In response, the IDF struck what it described as several Hezbollah infrastructure sites, including drone and anti-tank missile launching posts, as well as additional infrastructure belonging to the group, Israel National News reported, citing the military.

The IDF said it “will continue to operate to remove immediate threats” and warned that “any use of force from Lebanese territory in order to harm Israeli civilians or IDF soldiers will be met with a decisive response”. The military added that it “remains committed to the agreement between Israel and Lebanon”, the ceasefire arrangement governing the area.

Haaretz and The Times of Israel both reported the exchange as taking place overnight between Saturday and Sunday. There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah reported by the Israeli outlets.
