Islamabad anti-terrorism court orders Imran Khan produced at next hearing in Judicial Complex attack case

An Islamabad anti-terrorism court has ordered jail authorities to produce jailed PTI founder Imran Khan at the next hearing of the Judicial Complex attack case, adjourning proceedings until November 5.

ISLAMABAD — An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday ordered authorities to produce jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan at the next hearing of the Judicial Complex attack case, Geo News reported.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra directed that Khan, who remains incarcerated at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, be produced before the court either in person or through video link at the next hearing. The case relates to an incident when supporters assembled at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex during Khan’s 2023 bail appearance, dismantling security barriers, vandalising the entrance gate and obstructing court proceedings. Police registered a terrorism case at Ramna police station citing Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Section 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The court also declared former federal ministers Farrukh Habib, Hammad Azhar and Murad Saeed, and former senator Shibli Faraz, proclaimed offenders for repeatedly failing to appear, and sought details of their properties — The News reported. FactFile noted that seeking property details is a step that can lead to attachment of assets. Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for former Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and PTI leader Hassan Niazi.

Proceedings were adjourned until November 5. Khan has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions he and his party describe as politically motivated.
