Imran Khan's three sisters challenge 30-day detention in Lahore High Court

The preventive detention of former prime minister Imran Khan’s three sisters has been challenged before the Lahore High Court, days before the PTI’s planned September 27 march on Islamabad.

Aleema Khan was detained on Sunday on the order of the Lahore deputy commissioner for 30 days; her sisters Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained for 30 days earlier on Monday — all under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, Dawn reported.

A petition filed by Aleema Khan’s son through Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar challenges the detention orders against his mother and two aunts, arguing the deputy commissioner issued them unlawfully and failed to follow the procedure prescribed under Section 3 of the MPO, according to Dawn. The petition contends the orders contain no specific allegations, show no application of mind, and that the grounds for detention were not communicated within the required period. It asks the court to set aside the orders and declare them unlawful.

A separate petition by citizen Shehryar Khan names the Punjab Home Secretary, the Lahore deputy commissioner, the city’s police chief and the jail superintendent as respondents, 24NewsHD reported.

The detentions come ahead of the PTI’s countrywide protest and march to Islamabad, called to demand Khan’s release from jail and the supremacy of the Constitution. Geo News reported that an earlier petition for Aleema’s release argued she is a law-abiding citizen and that the 30-day detention order was contrary to the facts.
