India summons Pakistani envoy over 'cross-border infiltration', rejects Ferozepur claims

India summoned Pakistan's Chargé d'Affaires on Saturday over alleged cross-border infiltration, rejecting Islamabad's claims about the 2 October Ferozepur incident as 'baseless and motivated'.

India summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi on Saturday, lodging a strong protest over what it called the “continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration” from Pakistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it “categorically rejected” as “baseless and motivated” Pakistan’s allegations about an incident in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab along the International Border on 2 October.

According to the MEA’s account, three individuals infiltrated into Indian territory and, despite multiple warnings by the Border Security Force to return to Pakistan, continued moving towards the border fence. “The BSF was compelled to engage them for posing an imminent security threat,” the statement said.

The MEA linked the incident to a “clear pattern of repeated cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan” and urged Islamabad to investigate the infiltration, the drug-smuggling activities and the alleged complicity of Pakistan’s border guarding forces, and to take remedial measures.

New Delhi also asked Pakistan to respect the sanctity of the International Border, strictly observe bilateral arrangements and mandate its forces to prevent unauthorised movement from its side.

The summons came hours after Pakistan summoned India’s top diplomat in Islamabad over the BSF’s killing of two people near the Punjab border on Friday — an incident the two sides describe in sharply conflicting terms, with Pakistan calling the dead unarmed civilians and India describing them as intruders.
