Iran says it has sent Washington its conditions to end the war via Qatar
Iran's security chief told Al Jazeera that Tehran has conveyed formal conditions — an end to the war, release of frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade — to Washington through Qatari mediators and is awaiting Trump's response.
Iran has conveyed a formal set of conditions to Washington through Qatari mediators for ending the war with the United States, and is awaiting Donald Trump’s response, the country’s security chief told Al Jazeera in an exclusive interview on Saturday.
“We remain in contact with the mediator Qatar, which has conveyed our conditions to Washington with the aim of ending the war,” said Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Tehran’s conditions, he said, are “an end to the war on all fronts, the release of our frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade”.
“It is in Washington’s interest to accept these conditions. Trump’s threats will not achieve any results. We are prepared for a decisive war,” Rezaei added. He did not rule out a new American strike, calling the possibility “very much on the cards”, and said Iran’s military planning was now focused on US naval assets from the Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
The move is the first concrete diplomatic opening since the June memorandum of understanding — brokered with Qatari and Pakistani mediation — collapsed in July. According to Al Jazeera’s reporting, the conflict began when the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in late February that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; it is now nearing its sixth month.
Trump told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that he was in “no hurry” to resume talks, saying economic and military pressure on Tehran were both effective.
