Iran's IRGC orders tanker to turn back in Hormuz 'or risk being hit', UKMTO says

A tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was hailed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and instructed to turn back or risk being targeted, the UK Maritime Trade Operations centre said on Monday; the vessel complied.

A tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was hailed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and instructed to turn back or risk being targeted, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said on Monday.

The tanker complied with the instruction, UKMTO said, adding that the incident occurred 11 nautical miles north of Khasab, Oman. Reuters first reported the agency’s advisory on Monday afternoon.

The confrontation is the latest in a string of incidents in the strait, the world’s most important oil chokepoint, as the US-Iran war grinds on. Reuters separately reported on Monday that Middle East crude oil exports have now exceeded pre-war levels even as attacks on tankers increase.

The incident comes as Washington and Tehran trade messages over a proposed seven-day plan for the strait. Flip News reported earlier on Monday that Iran says the US has conveyed its views on the plan while Washington remains split on concessions.

No casualties or damage were reported in the latest incident, and no group claimed responsibility beyond the IRGC hailing reported by UKMTO.
