IRGC warns it will strike US warships in the Indian Ocean if another war breaks out

A senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy official has warned that Iran will target American warships across the Indian Ocean if Washington launches another war against Iran.

Ali Mohammadi, the IRGC Navy’s deputy for political affairs, was quoted by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency as saying: “If another war breaks out, we will undoubtedly attack and hit their ships and destroyers even in the Indian Ocean.”

Mohammadi challenged US President Donald Trump’s claim of American control over the Strait of Hormuz, daring the US to send a warship close to the strategic waterway. “If Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz his strait, then why aren’t his ships and vessels here?” he said.

The remarks were reported on Sunday, September 27, and were also carried by Al Jazeera, LaPresse, the Hindustan Times and Mathrubhumi.

The warning comes amid renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington over the Strait of Hormuz, where vessel traffic has fallen sharply during the ongoing regional conflict. Iran is awaiting a formal US response to its proposal to reopen the strait within seven days under specified conditions. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was waiting for Washington’s position to be conveyed through mediators after Trump publicly rejected the proposal.
