BJP Kerala headquarters attacked in Thiruvananthapuram; party blames Congress workers, calls statewide protest
Unidentified miscreants hurled bottles and stones at the BJP's Kerala headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram late Wednesday night; the BJP alleges Congress workers were behind it and has called statewide protests, even as Congress offices also came under attack.
The BJP’s Kerala headquarters, Mararji Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants late Wednesday night, with bottles and stones hurled at the building. Police were subsequently deployed outside the office premises, news agency ANI reported.
Earlier in the evening, the vehicle of the party’s national executive committee member and former state president PK Krishnadas was also allegedly targeted, according to India TV.
BJP National Secretary K Surendran alleged to ANI that Congress workers were behind the attacks and said the party would hold protests in response. “Today evening, the BJP state office was attacked by Congress workers. At around 6 pm, our national leader and former BJP state president, PK Krishnadas, was also targeted,” he said, adding that “democracy and law and order are being undermined” and that “a powerful statewide protest will rise against this.”
In a tit-for-tat night, the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) office was pelted with stones by unidentified miscreants, while a fire was reported at the Neyyattinkara Anavoor Mandalam Committee office.
Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan condemned the attacks on Congress party offices, calling them “a most heinous attack” and promising strict legal action against those responsible. The clashes come amid heightened political tensions following a black-flag protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Kollam.
