An unknown projectile struck the Panama-flagged oil tanker MT On Peace in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, injuring 12 of 19 crew, India’s foreign ministry said (https://www.reuters.com/world/india/attack-oil-tanker-leaves-12-injured-indian-ministry-says-2026-10-06/).

Seventeen of the crew are Indian nationals, 11 of them injured. The Dubai-owned Aframax is operated by ONEX DMCC and managed by Anglo-Eastern Tanker Management (https://www.seatrade-maritime.com/security/at-least-12-seafarers-injured-in-hormuz-tanker-attack).

The vessel was hit off the coast of Oman; with Omani authorities’ help, the injured were evacuated and are being treated in Khasab, Oman (https://theprint.in/world/11-indian-crew-injured-in-strike-on-panama-flagged-ship-in-strait-of-hormuz-new-delhi-condemns-attack/3063972/).

India condemned the attack, calling the attacks “a cause of deep concern” and reiterating its call for “an immediate cessation of such attacks” (https://news.abplive.com/news/india/11-indian-crew-injured-after-ship-hit-by-projectile-in-strait-of-hormuz-new-delhi-condemns-attack-1870104).

The MT On Peace is among 81 vessels blacklisted by Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (https://www.seatrade-maritime.com/security/at-least-12-seafarers-injured-in-hormuz-tanker-attack).

The strike continues a wave of attacks: Reuters reported at least 12 attacks on oil, LNG and LPG tankers in the week of September 28-October 5, the highest since the US-Iran war began on February 28, with the IMO separately recording nine incidents; at least five vessels have been attacked since October 3 (https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/attacks-tankers-hormuz-hit-highest-any-week-since-start-iran-war-sources-say-2026-10-07/) (https://shipsandports.com.ng/12-crew-injured-as-tanker-hit-by-projectile-in-strait-of-hormuz/).

The Joint Maritime Information Center said drone overflights, surveillance and VHF-radio hailing by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards persist in the strait (https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/attacks-tankers-hormuz-hit-highest-any-week-since-start-iran-war-sources-say-2026-10-07/). The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency reported an unnamed tanker struck on Monday with an engine-room fire (https://www.reuters.com/world/india/attack-oil-tanker-leaves-12-injured-indian-ministry-says-2026-10-06/).

India also condemned an attack on the merchant vessel Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea, in which two foreign seafarers were killed; three Indian crew are safe after rescue by Romanian authorities (https://theprint.in/world/11-indian-crew-injured-in-strike-on-panama-flagged-ship-in-strait-of-hormuz-new-delhi-condemns-attack/3063972/).
