Power pylon blown up in Nasirabad cuts electricity to parts of Sindh and Punjab
Unidentified men blew up a 220kV transmission pylon near Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan's Nasirabad district early on Saturday, cutting power from the Uch Power Plant to cities across Sindh and Punjab; no group has claimed responsibility and repairs await security clearance.
Power supply to several areas of Sindh and Punjab was disrupted after unidentified men blew up a 220kV high-voltage transmission pylon near Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan’s Nasirabad district, officials said on Saturday.
Nasirabad Senior Superintendent of Police Asad Khan Nasar said an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted under the pylon in the Goth Mughal Khan Bugti area in the early hours of Saturday, and the blast destroyed the pylon, suspending supply from the Uch Power Plant.
The outage hit Shikarpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Guddu, as well as some areas of Dera Murad Jamali, according to Dawn, which was republished by Pajhwok Afghan News.
Police and security forces secured the site, collected evidence and launched a search operation, while the bomb disposal squad cleared the area. Officials said repairs on the destroyed pylon would begin once security clearance was obtained from the relevant authorities.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
