Pakistan condemns Houthi attack on Madina power station as 'grave provocation'

Pakistan on Friday condemned the alleged Houthi militia attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Madina on Sept 29, describing it as a “grave provocation” and a threat to regional peace and security, Dawn reported (https://www.dawn.com/news/2034209/grave-provocation-pakistan-condemns-houthi-attack-on-power-facility-in-madina).

“This reprehensible attack against civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque is a grave provocation and a matter of deep concern and anguish for millions of Muslims worldwide,” the Foreign Office said in a statement, according to Geo News (https://www.geo.tv/latest/684655-pakistan-slams-houthi-attack-on-madina-power-station-as-grave-provocation).

Islamabad called for an “immediate and unconditional” end to “reckless actions” and reaffirmed its “unwavering solidarity” with Saudi Arabia, pledging full support for the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security, and for safeguarding the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of pilgrims.

The condemnation came a day after the Saudi-led coalition said a drone struck the station at 5:11am on September 29, taking one transformer out of service without affecting the wider electricity network. Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said debris examination confirmed Houthi involvement; the Houthis have denied the accusation, Dawn reported.

The statement follows a series of Houthi cross-border attacks this year, including a drone intercepted south of Makkah in September, and comes after Pakistan signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Riyadh in Sept 2025 and joined the Makkah Defence Alliance with Turkiye, signed on August 7.
